Biography

Mark Davis is the Senior Director of Design Research at Autodesk. He is researching next generation design solutions and methodologies, working at the intersection of business, technology and design. He has expertise in consumer product design, broadcast media and entertainment, engineering application development, mobile applications and devices with two decades of experience building and leading user research and user experience organizations in start-ups, client - agency and corporate environments.

In 2005, Mark joined Autodesk as Director of Product Design for Infrastructure Solutions. Over the next four years, his team contributed to advances in data interoperability, visual fidelity and user interface consistency for AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit and 3dsMax. In the last two years, Mark and his team were responsible for UX for Suites, including delivery on USB drives. Mark and his team were also instrumental in the initial experience for Autodesk Web Services, now branded Autodesk 360.

Mark has screen credits for movies, broadcast television and game titles. During the .com boom, Mark created business value for clients such as LG Electronics, Netflix, and Palm. He led the HCI team at Palm from 2001-2004 and was instrumental in introducing color, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cameras, video, music and telephony into the portfolio. His team designed the award winning Treo 650, arguably the first true “smart phone”.

Mark holds a degree in Engineering Technology from the University of Nevada. He is self-taught in advanced computer animation. Mark is an inventor on patents for data visualization and user interface for mobile and telephony. He is a frequent speaker and judge at design and innovation related events.
